How Would F1 Score in Other Series (and in the Future)

2002 will be the last season where Formula One awards 10-6-4-3-2-1 points. As of 2003, Formula One will award points to the top eight finishers. Furthermore, other motor racing series have vastly different points system - some award every participant, even if he retired on the first lap! Atlas F1's Marcel Borsboom used the new, 2003 F1 points system as well as three different systems from other series - CART, NASCAR and Moto GP - to weigh the 2002 F1 World Championship. The result? Either way you look at it, 2002 was a predictable season...
The 2003 F1 Points System
1st = 10 points; 5th = 4;
2nd = 8; 6th = 3;
3rd = 6; 7th = 2;
4th = 5; 8th = 1;
No other points awarded.

In addition, the Pole sitter gets a point and the driver with most laps led in the race also gets a point.

According to the FIM regulations, riders are classified if they complete 75% of the race distance within 5 minutes of the winner.

Due to the vast difference in timing between MotoGP and F1, we have used the above system only for those drivers who were classified under the FIA regulations for Formula One races. Therefore, in some races not all points were awarded.
Teams are awarded only for their best result in each race (the highest score of their two drivers).
