2002 Qualifying Differentials:
Spain

By Marcel Borsboom, Netherlands
Atlas F1 Magazine Writer

For the fifth year running, Atlas F1 is going to keep an eye on the battle between teammates throughout the season with a simple measurement: we compare the qualifying times of each driver against his teammate's result. After every Grand Prix, we will show how teammates have fared up against each other, and where they are overall since the beginning of the season. At the end of the season, the World Champion of Qualifying Differentials will be elected - the driver who beat his teammate by the most seconds. Only those who participate in at least 15 of the 17 rounds are eligible for the coveted crown; and for those who made the efforts and participated in all 17 races, the best and worst result will be scrapped.

With five qualifying sessions completed for 2002, the differentials are once again on a roll! Let's see which drivers deserve bragging rights.

Spain Notables

  • Jaguar: The Jaguar pair of Eddie Irvine and Pedro de la Rosa was excluded from the Spain edition of Qualifying Differentials, because Irvine's time was disqualified due to fuel irregularities.

  • Minardi: Despite a rainfall of wings falling off his car, Mark Webber was still able to outclass his teammate Alex Yoong through and through, and at this point of the season, it seems the rookie Australian will walk away with the QD trophy for 2002.

  • Setting the Record Straight: Well Kimi Raikkonen has his name sprayed on Position 5 it seems, and the young Finn yet again matched his best ever grid position. Another driver to set a personal best was Arrows's Enrique Bernoldi - with a 14th grid position.

  • Changes since San Marino: Jenson Button has moved ahead of Jarno Trulli in the overall differentials chart.
