How Would F1 Score in Other Series
By Marcel Borsboom, Netherlands
Atlas F1 Magazine Writer
The Formula One points system is often criticised by fans and participants alike, primarily for giving so little reward to those who consistently finish races, but don't finish it in the top six. Other motor racing series have different points system, some award every participant, even if he retired on the first lap! Atlas F1's Marcel Borsboom used three different systems from other series - CART, NASCAR and Moto GP - and used them to weigh this year's F1 WC
The CART Points System
1st = 20 points; 7th = 6;
2nd = 16; 8th = 5;
3rd = 14; 9th = 4;
4th = 12; 10th = 3;
5th = 10; 11th = 2;
6th = 8; 12th = 1.
In addition, the Pole sitter gets a point and the driver with most laps led in the race also gets a point.

Due to the vast difference in timing between MotoGP and F1, we have used the above system only for those drivers who were classified under the FIA regulations for Formula One races. Therefore, in some races not all points were awarded.
Teams are awarded only for their best result in each race (the highest score of their two drivers).
