Button Arrives First In Melbourne

Sunday March 5th, 2000

With the first of the Jumbo Jets carrying the cars and equipment arriving at Melbourne's Avalon airport this evening for the new Formula One season, the first of the drivers, Williams' new boy Jenson Button arrived in Melbourne on Saturday morning.

His first visit was, not unsurprisingly, to the Albert Park track where he wasted no time hitching a lift in a BMW Z3 to familiarise himself with the circuit. Although he was happy to pose for photographers in the car, he refused to drive it, because he wasn't insured!

20 year old Button shrugged aside questions about his lack of experience, saying "I'll let my driving do the talking". He won't have to wait long for a chance to drive his Williams at Albert Park with practice starting on Friday.
