Button Back in Car as Burti Goes Fastest in Silverstone

Tuesday February 29th, 2000

Jaguar's test driver Luciano Burti was the fastest on the first day of testing at Silverstone today. Weather again hampered all the teams' progress, as well as various technical problems, which prevented Benetton's Alex Wurz and Prost's Nick Heidfeld from running any timed laps.

Back in the car was Williams' Jenson Button, who ended the day third fastest, albeit a spin on the slippery track. "Apart from the atrocious weather conditions, today went well," Button commented. "I have never simulated pit-stops before and given how wet it was today, the pit-stop practice was a very valuable learning experience for me."

Today's times:

Pos Driver Team Time
 1. Burti Jaguar-Cosworth 1:40.54
 2. Trulli Jordan-Mugen Honda 1:41.64
 3. Button Williams-BMW 1:42.17
 4. Wurz Benetton-Playlife No Time
 5. Heidfeld Prost-Peugeot No Time

The 1999 fastest testing time is 1:25.670 (G. Fisichella)
