McLaren Worker Killed Accidentally at Home

Saturday February 5th, 2000

The McLaren team was shocked to learn yesterday that two of its workers were accidentally gassed at their appartment in Woking, near the factory.

The London Times reports today that Amanda Rhys-Davies, 23, who worked in the team's accounts department, died from inhaling carbon monoxide fumes, and her boyfriend, Wayne Court, 24, an electronics technician for McLaren, is recovering in hospital.

The couple were found unconscious in their apartment, after three days of lying on the floor, by Rhys-Davies' mother who was worried by their disappearance and broke into their flat. Initial investigation said the two had been overcome by carbon monoxide fumes from a gas central heating boiler. Apparently, Rhys-Davies had been dead for quite some time when found. Court, however, is on his way to full recovery and is expected to be discharged from hospital soon.
