More Problems for McLaren at Jerez

Friday February 4th, 2000

On the second day of McLaren testing at Jerez, World Champion Mika Hakkinen continued to suffer from mechanical problem in the new MP4-15, this time as the rear suspension failed.

If that wasn't enough, after waiting for hours until the car was reparied, Hakkinen only managed to put in a handful of laps before the engine gave in. None the less, the Finn completed 38 laps, with a best time of 1:24.40.

His teammate, David Coulthard, also encountered engine problems in the afternoon session, but prior to that had more success, driving the 1999 MP4-14. The Scot completed 72 laps, setting the fastest time of the day, 1:23.61.
