Sauber and Prost tested this week at the Ferrari-owned Italian Mugello track, under blue skies and in hot weather conditions. Each team had one car testing, with the teammates alternating between the days. Sauber sorted out different aerodynamic configurations, and the engineers tried new radiatior-channels, which lead to a few degrees lower temperature of the cooling-liquid. Developing work on the brakes with different materials seems to result in a better brake-performance.

Prost concentrated at first on chassis set-up and a test of different aerodynamics solutions for the Spa circuit. They also worked on a suspension program and tested shock absorber evolutions. On the second day Jarno Trulli suffered an engine problem, which meant the team had to replace the engine, causing a delay in the program. On the third day, the team worked mainly on the aerodynamics set-ups of the car for the Hungary Grand Prix. The team also tested several solution for the car cooling as it is a critical point during the Hungary race.

Today at Fiorano, Eddie Irvine continued with the test work he began with yesterday - set up and brakes on the Ferrari F399. In the morning session, the Irish driver completed around thirty laps on dry asphalt. In the afternoon, Ferrari artificially flooded the circuit for a wet-simulated test of the new Bridgestone wet-weather tyres. Testing continues tomorrow at Fiorano, when Eddie Irvine will shake down two of the cars destined for the Hungarian Grand Prix.
