The use of the expensive material aluminium beryllium in engines will be discussed during the Grand Prix of Luxembourg. Aluminium beryllium is used in cylinder linings to reduce friction. Both Mercedes as Peugeot use the material but Ferrari is lobbing to get it banned. The Arrows team said they would like to use it but it is just too expensive.

The FIA is said to be considering a ban starting in 2000.
