Just a few hours after finishing fifth in the Hungarian Grand Prix, Williams driver Heinz Harald Frentzen was flown to a hospital in Vienna, where he will stay the night. The German driver suffered all weekend from a severe food poisoning, and was unable to eat and drink properly. He had high fever and needed fluid infusions last night in order to drive today.
Today, after the race, he said he felt OK, but seemed very pale and dehydrated. FIA's doctor, Prof. Sid Watkins, ran checks on Frentzen, only to decide his must be hospitalized at once.
Frentzen, however, had troubles holding himself, let alone walking, and was taken by an ambulace from the Williams garage to an awaiting helicopter, which took him to his private jet in the Budapest airport. From there, he was flown to Vienna. "We want him in hospital tonight, to see exactly what the problem is and have him somewhere he can start to recover as quickly as possible," Frenzten's spokesman said.
