As in previous years, Atlas F1's Marcel Borsboom applies two of the previous modern F1 points systems as well as four different systems from other series - CART, IRL, NASCAR and Moto GP - to the 2004 F1 World Championship. See the difference for yourself...


The 1991-2002 F1 System

The CART Points System
First place is awarded 31 points, and from 2nd to 10th there are two points difference, from 27 to 11 respectively. From 10th position to 20th, there's a point difference, from 10 points to 1 point respectively. A bonus point is awarded for fastest driver in Friday qualifying as well as another bonus point for the fastest driver in Saturday qualifying. A bonus point is also awarded for any driver who leads a lap, as well as to the driver who sets the fastest lap, and also to the driver that gains the most places from their starting position. Any driver who leads at least one lap earn 5 bonus points, while the driver who leads the most laps earns another 5 bonus points.

The MOTO GP Points System

According to the FIM regulations, riders are classified if they complete 75% of the race distance within 5 minutes of the winner.

Due to the vast difference in timing between MotoGP and F1, we have used the above system only for those drivers who were classified under the FIA regulations for Formula One races. Therefore, in some races not all points were awarded.

Teams are awarded only for their best result in each race (the highest score of their two drivers).
