How Would F1 Score in Other Series (and in the Past)

The Formula One World Championship points system was very much a topic of debate this season, some believing it does not reflect accurately the hierarchy of performance over the season. Then again, there doesn't seem to be any points system that would make everyone content, not to mention other motor racing series have vastly different points system - some award every participant, even if he retired on the first lap! Atlas F1's Marcel Borsboom used two of the previous modern F1 points systems as well as four different systems from other series - CART, IRL, NASCAR and Moto GP - to weigh the 2003 F1 World Championship. The result? Either way you play around, the Champion remains the same...
The 1991-2002 F1 System
1st = 10 points; 4th = 3;
2nd = 6; 5th = 2;
3rd = 4; 6th = 1;
No other points awarded.

In addition, there is one extra point for pole on Friday, one extra point for pole on Saturday, and an extra point for most laps led.

According to the FIM regulations, riders are classified if they complete 75% of the race distance within 5 minutes of the winner.
