A three-day test at the Mugello circuit came to an end today, with Italian Luca Badoer again outpacing the only other driver on track.
Ferrari's test driver Badoer concentrated once more on a tyre evaluation programme ahead of next week's Japanese Grand Prix, completing a total of 112 laps with two different F2002 chassis. The Italian set a quickest time of 1:22.032, finishing more than 2.5 seconds ahead of German Nick Heidfeld.
The Sauber driver took over from Brazilian teammate Felipe Massa at the wheel of the Petronas-powered C21 car. Heidfeld posted a best time of 1:24.627 after 84 laps around the Italian circuit.
"I enjoyed myself today and I am encouraged by what we have achieved," said Heidfeld at the end of the day. "The car was stable and well-balanced, and it ran without any problems all day. I am looking forward to Japan next week."
Badoer will now travel to Fiorano, where he will be testing tomorrow.
