Briton Jenson Button is aiming to score his first podium in Formula One at this weekend's Brazilian Grand Prix after being robbed of what looked set to be a best-ever third place in Malaysia eight days ago.

The Renault driver was comfortably running in third spot at the Sepang circuit, when he was forced to slow down due to a problem with his front suspension, allowing Ferrari's World Champion Michael Schumacher to take the lowest step of the rostrum.

Now Button is hoping to have a shot at the podium at Sunday's Brazilian Grand Prix, despite claiming his R202 car is not as quick as the top contenders.

"It would be nice to get on the podium," said Button, who went on to finish fourth in Malaysia. "Hopefully, I might get the chance to do that and to achieve what I missed out on at the last race in Sepang.

"We can't compete with the quickest teams on pure pace at the moment, but if the circumstances fall in our favour again we could get there. We shall have to wait and see where we qualify and then see what happens in the race."

Button scored his first Formula One point at the Brazilian Grand Prix in 2000, becoming the youngest ever point-scorer in Grand Prix racing.
