Pizzonia Again on Top at Monza - Day Two

Wednesday July 10th, 2002

Pizzonia Again on Top at MonzaBrazilian Antonio Pizzonia continued to dominate testing at the Monza circuit in Italy, where the Williams test driver finished on top of the times for the second consecutive day.

Pizzonia concentrated again on aerodynamic work, his Williams team also practising refuelling aimed at avoiding a repeat of the problems encountered at the British Grand Prix last Sunday. The Brazilian was more than half a second quicker than Allan McNish.

The Scot continued his work for the Toyota team, concentrating predominantly on aerodynamics and also on launch control, mechanical set-up and on trying to find the cause of the clutch problem that left him stranded on the grid at the British Grand Prix.

"Today we worked on the clutch problem that we had at last week's British Grand Prix," said McNish. "We now know what caused the problem and we have found a solution. Generally we made some progress with the car over the kerbs, but it is all about the whole package and Mika (Salo) will continue with this during tomorrow's session."

The British American Racing team joined the test today, working with two cars driven by test drivers Anthony Davidson and Patrick Lemarie, the Briton being the quickest of the two despite completing several laps less than the Frenchman.

Jaguar's Pedro de la Rosa also joined the session on Wednesday, as the Milton Keynes team continue with the assessment of the revised Cosworth-powered R3B. The Spaniard was fourth quickest after losing a lot of time due to a mechanical failure that could not be solved as the team had no replacement parts. German Andre Lotterer was fifth in the second Jaguar.

Testing at Monza will continue on Thursday.
