Alain Prost has gone on vacation with his Prost team. He wants to let his team relax before the preparations for the new season start and, at the same time, let the team get closer. The destination is unknown.
Sources in Germany say Michelin will not return to Formula One next season or in 1999 when Goodyear is no longer present. The high costs would be one of their main objection to such a project.
A spokesman of the company in Holland said however, no decision has been made yet. More clarity can be expected in the next couple of weeks.
Some people also believe the Goodyear announcement to leave Formula One is just a threat to the FIA.
The head of the Planet Hollywood concern has created an easy way out for the British New-Labour government. New-Labour received a gift from Bernie Ecclestone of 1 million pounds a while ago. Labour changed anti tobacco policy at the same time. The policy made it possible for Formula One to continue using tobacco advertising. The government has received heavy criticism over the possible link between the gift and the new policy. Robert Earl has made a deal possible between Ecclestone and Labour; the money will now go to a cancer-control foundation.
