Schumacher Returns and Breaks Fiorano Record

Monday January 14th, 2002

World Champion Michael Schumacher returned to the wheel of his Ferrari for the first time since the end of last season in October, when he tested on Monday at the Fiorano circuit, where he set an unofficial track record.

The four-time champion completed a total of 69 laps around the Italian circuit, setting a fastest time of 58.783, over one tenth of a second quicker than the previous best, set by him last year.

The German star, who clinched his fourth title after nine victories last year, continued with the development of new experimental components for this year's car. Schumacher replaced Brazilian test driver Luciano Burti, who tested until last Saturday at Fiorano.
