Italian Jarno Trulli and his Renault team were once more quickest in testing at the Silverstone circuit, where five Formula One teams will carry out their final session before the start of the season in Australia next week.
Trulli, who had already topped the times on Monday at the wheel of the second R202 chassis from the French squad, was able to improve over his time from yesterday, lapping nearly three tenths of a second quicker to finish slightly ahead of the first Arrows A23, driven by German Heinz-Harald Frentzen.
"Another good day for the team, during which we continued our preparations for Melbourne," said Renault's technical director Mike Gascoyne. "Jenson shook down chassis 01, and Jarno continued working in 02, finishing in wet conditions owing to rain during the afternoon."
Giancarlo Fisichella and teammate Takuma Sato enjoyed a more positive day on Tuesday for the Jordan team, the Japanese driver being the busiest man on track with a total of 74 laps completed on his way to the fourth quickest time.
Briton Jenson Button at wheel of the Renault, and Brazilian Enrique Bernoldi driving the second Arrows, joined the test today, finishing in fifth and sixth positions respectively. The Jaguar and BAR teams also worked at Silverstone today, with Spaniard Pedro de la Rosa finishing ahead of Jacques Villeneuve and test driver Anthony Davidson.
The Silverstone test will resume on Wednesday.
