Button Says Point Provides Little Pleasure

Wednesday March 29th, 2000

Britain's Jenson Button says he has got little satisfaction from being, provisionally, the youngest driver to score a point in Formula One.

The 20-year-old Williams driver took a point at the Brazilian Grand Prix after compatriot David Coulthard, who finished runner-up to Ferrari's Michael Schumacher, was disqualified when his McLaren failed an inspection.

McLaren have appealed and the hearing will be held in Paris on Monday with a decision expected on Tuesday.

"If I am handed the point it will give me no real satisfaction because I would rather win it fair and square on the track," newspapers quoted Button, now testing at Silverstone, as saying on Wednesday.

"I heard the news about David as I was making my way to the airport to fly back from Brazil -- and I can't say it gave me any great feeling of joy.

"When your whole life is racing you want to earn any success through your driving skills, not because of someone else's misfortune."
