Ferrari Cockpit Pass Scrutiny

Thursday March 9th, 2000

Barrichello and the rulerWith less than 24 hours to go before the cars hit the Albert Park roads in Friday's first free practice, Ferrari have one less worry on their minds: the Australian Grand Prix scrutineers declared the Italian team's cockpit as legal.

The cars underwent check up today at Melbourne by the official FIA technical delegates at the scene, which included measurements of the head rest on the cockpit. A few weeks ago it was suggested that Ferrari's cockpit, as well as Jordan's, might be outside the regulations. Following that, the FIA technical officer, Charlie Whiting, inspected the cars and deemed them legal. However, the cockpit changes could have still been banned by the local stewards at Australia. Therefore, now that the car passed the initial scrutiny, the team has been given the all-clear.

The car will be going again through scrutiny on Saturday and on Sunday after the race, should any of the Ferrari drivers finish on the podium.
