Brands Hatch GP Moves Closer to Reality

Sunday June 25th, 2000

Brands Hatch is on the way to becoming the venue for the British Grand Prix again.

Brands Hatch Leisure Group obtained the rights last year to host the British Grand Prix from 2002 onwards. However, the Brands Hatch circuit and surroundings need to be improved to meet FIA standards, and these changes required an application for permission to develop the surrounding land.

Brands Hatch have received the backing of Kent County Council, as the council voted 15 to three in favour of developing the circuit.

Sevenoaks Council are set to meet tomorrow, and another vote in favour of the plans would see the circuit being developed to host the 2002 British Grand Prix.

This comes just days after the current British Grand Prix host, Silverstone, received a warning that the race could disappear from the Formula One calendar if the problems at this year's event were likely to occur again.
