Schumacher and Minardi Test at Mugello

Monday February 28th, 2000

Ferrari continued testing at Mugello today, with Michael Schumacher at the wheel of the F1-2000. Minardi also joined testing on Ferrari's track, for a couple of days of running before the cars are shipped to Australia.

Ferrari's testing began at 09:00. In the morning, Schumacher did a few runs to fine-tune the F1-2000. After the car was checked over, the engineers decided to delay the long run test until tomorrow morning as they deemed it necessary to make small changes to some of the components on the car. Testing therefore ended at 11:00, not before Schumacher ran 16 laps, with a best time of 1:24.968 - a couple of tenths off the track record, which he set last week.

Minardi's Gaston Mazzacane continued the work on the car in view of the first race of the championship which will start within less than two weeks. He ran 21 laps, with a best time of 1:28.666.

Tomorrow, Michael Schumacher will continue testing at Mugello, with Minardi's Marc Gene taking to track on board the M02 car, alongside Mazzacane.

The Mugello lap record is 1:24.705 (M. Schumacher)
