Friday February 11th, 2000 Eddie Irvine and Johnny Herbert spent most of the day in the pits on Friday as Formula One newcomers Jaguar struggled to get on the road at a pre-season test in Spain. "Oil system-related problems severely reduced our running," said Jaguar's race director Andy Miller after the session at the Circuit de Catalunya. "Eddie and Johnny did hardly anything in the morning when most of the good times were set and only had enough running to do three timed runs late in the afternoon. "Neither driver was entirely happy with the car." An oil pump failure, which Jaguar said was their first since testing started in January, prevented Irvine from doing more than 27 laps on Thursday while fellow Briton Herbert had throttle control problems and completed just 18. Formerly the Stewart team, who finished fourth in the constructors' championship last season, Ford-owned Jaguar will make their Formula One debut in Australia on March 12. McLaren's David Coulthard was fastest in the Barcelona session on Friday in the new MP4-15 car.
