Irvine Lashes Out at Coulthard

Wednesday August 18th, 1999

Eddie Irvine dedicated his weekly column to Hungary's race, taking the opportunity to lash out at David Coulthard, in what seems to be more of a psychological warfare that straight-forward analysis.

"I was a bit worried when DC got up behind me for he is a bit of desperate man at the moment and you don't want to be in front of a guy who is in a hurry-up mood when you are trying to get as many points as possible to win the title," writes Irvine.

"His championship is over and with his record of hitting people in races this season, I was concerned about it happening to me - again.

"Don't forget, he banged into me trying to get past in Canada and almost ruined a great race for me. He took out his own team-mate in Austria, lost his front wing in Germany when he ran into the back of my team-mate Mika Salo and there have been a couple more in the last few seasons.

"Too right I was worried that instead of six points I might end up with none. In a way it maybe worked out for the best that I slid out of the way and he went past to take second, leaving me to just settle for third and a safe four points."

Irvine concludes his column by saying: "I'm not worried, I don't see why anyone else should be - except maybe McLaren."
