Michael Schumacher is trying a new-style helmet at Suzuka. He asked helmet designer Pierre van Ginneken to incorporate a new chrome border at the bottom of the helmet and chequered sides in the design for next year. Van Ginneken, who works for Bell’s European importer, said he could incorporate the new touches for the last Grand Prix in Japan and therefore Schumacher is using it this weekend.

BMW to begin tests this winter

BMW could be ready to track test their Formula One engine as early as January. Williams are supplying two chassis to the German automobile manufacturer which they are running from Munich in Germany, but using British mechanics recruited by Williams - although they are not current Formula One mechanics. The cars are likely to be finished in BMW’s white colours. No drivers have yet been recruited.
