The organisers of the Hungarian Grand Prix were fined today and received warning by The World Motor Sport Council, following the track invasion which occurred at the Grand Prix earlier this year, after Michael Schumacher won the race. The Council set a fine of one million USD on the organisers, of which they paid 250,000 USD and the remainder is suspended and will become instantly payable should there be a further track invasion at the Hungaroring circuit in 1999 or 2000.
The Council also decided that the Hungarian Grand Prix will remain on the 1999 FIA Formula One World Championship Calendar, subject to acceptance by the Council at its December meeting of a complete plan detailing how the organisers will prevent such events occurring in the future. The proposal must include a police plan confirmed and agreed to in writing by the competent Hungarian authorities.
