Juan Manuel Fangio was voted the greatest driver in Formula One history, during the Silverstone 50th anniversary Gala, on Saturday night. Runners up to Fangio were Jim Clark in second and Ayrton Senna third. Colin Chapman was voted the best team owner.

Fangio has won five World Championships, during the 9 years that he races, in the '50s. He holds to this day the highest average of points per race and the highest percentage of wins - having won about half the races he started. At Silverstone, Fangio won only once, in 1956.

Silverstone celebrated this weekend 50 years of race hosting, on the track that once was a military airfield. It was the first track to host the FIA Formula One World Championship Grand Prix, back in 1950, and has since hosted 32 Grands Prix.
