Montoya is also mentioned as a contender for the second seat at Sauber. Nick Heidfeld is the second candidate. Tora Takagi is reported not to be a serious alternative. Takagi is linked with Arrows just like Pedro de la Rosa. Mika Salo is expected to stay with the team.

Pedro Diniz is linked with the new BAR team. Diniz will bring about US$ nine million with him. This could also be a tempting offer for Sauber. BAR has also offered a US$ 12 million deal to Damon Hill but the Englishman will stay with Jordan.
