TSN reports from the Molson Indy weekend at Toronto:

Alex Zanardi, who told TSN during the CART race in Cleveland that he has signed a deal to join Williams next year, was asked after his victory in Toronto if this was his last race in Toronto. Zanardi coyly smiled and with a chuckle said he's not sure but knows one thing - it was not his last race in Canada; the inference being that Formula One stops in Montreal once a year.

It was also reported over the weekend that the management of the Target/Chip Ganassi team are trying everything to keep Zanardi in CART next year. Senior management have come to speak to Zanardi personally to convince him not to jump back to Formula One. However, it's believed the money being thrown at Zanardi by Williams will force the Target people to back down and let him go.

Pollock goes shopping

Craig Pollock made a brief stop in Toronto over the Molson Indy weekend. For the record, Pollock said he was visiting with his son who is staying with Barry Green and his family in Indianapolis. Green is owner of Team KOOL/Green which fields cars for Paul Tracy and Dario Franchitti on the CART circuit. However, while in town to see his son, Pollock made the rounds in the paddock area.

First was a stop to see Greg Moore's father, Ric, who manages his son's career, further fueling the rumors that Moore is ready to jump to F1. The senior Moore told reporters afterwards that he and Pollock were simply making small talk adding they discussed the weather.

Alex Zanardi said he would likely speak with Pollock as well before the weekend was over but Pollock acknowledged the Italian was unlikely to consider a move to a brand new F1 team. He quickly added that while Zanardi was on his short list, he is certain to join Frank Williams next year.

Pollock confirmed once again that Jacques Villeneuve is his number one choice to be the number one driver on the BAR team. "Jacques is still my number one choice as my number one driver. But Jacques still has to know what he wants to do. I know I'll have to make him a very competitive offer but it's not just a matter of money with him. He wants to win. But the package we'll have will be a lot better than the one he has this year."

As for a teammate, Pollock says he has already spoken with Jimmy Vasser, Zanardi's teammate on the highly successful Chip Ganassi team. Pollock said, "I've got a lot of respect for Jimmy Vasser. He won the championship the year after Villeneuve and I remember that he was one of Jacques' toughest competitors when Jacques won the championship." Villeneuve has indicated he would not mind having Vasser as a teammate on the BAR team.

Pollock was also spotted entering the trailer of Newman/Haas boss Carl Haas, which employs both Michael Andretti and Christian Fittipaldi.
