According to TSN CART analyst Bill Adam, Alex Zanardi confirmed this past weekend (July 12) at the Cleveland Grand Prix that he will be joining the Williams Formula One team next year. When asked by Adam if the reports are true that he was moving to Formula One, Zanardi told him, "It's a done deal." It's reported that Zanardi will be paid $7-million US with Williams.

Meanwhile, TSN's Formula One analyst and respected Formula One journalist Gerald Donaldson confirms that Heinz-Harald Frentzen is moving to the CART series next year to join the Bobby Rahal team. Rahal is retiring at the end of the season and said last week that he would name a replacement likely by the end of the month. He indicated that while his preference would be to hire an American driver, his choice would come down to either a European or South American candidate.

Also, Donaldson reports that if Jacques Villeneuve joins Pollock's BAR team next year for a rumored $15-million US, he (Villeneuve) would like CART driver Jimmy Vasser to be brought on board as a teammate. Vasser and Villeneuve both competed against each other on the CART circuit and Vasser is currently teammate to CART champion Alex Zanardi.
