The McLaren cars keep dominating the times in Barcelona (Spain). Mika Hakkinen broke his team-mate previous track record with a 1m 21.41s. Hakkinen stated: "I am pleased with the performance of the car so far but it is still early days."

Ralf Schumacher set the fastest time for the Jordan team with a 1m 22.47s. Juichi Wakisaka got a test driver with the Jordan team. The Japanese was last with a time of 1m 29.78s.

Jean Alesi had problems with the Ferrari engine while Ricardo Rosset had a good test with the Ford V10.

Olivier Panis tested for the Prost team on the Magny-Cours (France) circuit. Benetton and Arrows were present at a wet Silverstone (England) track.
