The French government is hoping to save their Grand Prix after all. The Grand Prix was dropped from the 1998 calendar because of a disagreement about television broadcasting rights. The FIA wanted the exclusive rights to the event but French law stated local television stations should also be able to broadcast their national event.

Sports minister Marie-George Buffet stated: "The door is open for the French Grand Prix to be re-scheduled."

The new law states that national broadcasting station have the right to show "brief excerpts" from the event. The FIA was not available for a comment.
