Ecclestone faces possible EC inquiry

Formula One boss Bernie Ecclestone could face an inquiry by the European Comission because of his monopoly in Formula One racing. Formula One supremo Bernie Ecclestone faces a possible inquiry by the European Commission (EC) into his monopoly of Grand Prix racing it was revealed on Saturday.

Belgium European Commissioner Karel Van Miert told the newspaper 'Belang van Limburg': "For 15 years Mr Ecclestone has had Formula One all to himself. It is a real problem."

A nameless Commissioner also stated that Ecclestone was both judge and jury which was in contradiction to the Rome treaty.
