Giancarlo Fisichella is a wanted driver. A while back it was reported that he would be driving for Benetton next year, because he was under contract with Benetton boss Flavio Briatore and he had only 'loaned' him to Jordan. Benetton stated: "We have been impressed by his performance and had no hesitation in exercising our option so that he can drive for us next year."
But Jordan boss Eddie Jordan stated for the BBC radio that he had not released Fisichella for next season. Jordan said: "This all happened while I was on holiday in Sardinia and I knew absolutely nothing about it until someone sent me a copy of the Benetton press release. I found the whole thing very strange. All I can say is that such an announcement is very premature and we intend to honour the confidentiality aspect of our agreement with Fisichella."
The Benetton team has reacted to this with the statement: "As far as we are concerned, he will be driving for Benetton."
