Senna trial will go ahead; Test

Italian prosecutors will go ahead as planned in the Senna trial, which will start this Thursday, despite the new evidence presented yesterday. The photograph will be accepted as evidence.

Gerhard Berger has broken the record set by Mika Hakkinen in the McLaren a year ago with his Benetton on the Estoril (Portugal) circuit. He clocked a fastest lap of 1m 19.47s. His team-mate Jean Alesi was second with a time of 1m 19.50s. Jacques Villeneuve was third in his Williams-Renault with a time of 1m 19.67s.

Giancarlo Fisichella was again faster than his team-mate Ralf Schumacher.

Olivier Panis is going faster and faster. He broke the fastest lap record set by him on Saturday on the Magny-Cours (France) circuit again today. The Frenchman clocked a time of 1m 13.25s. The pole time of Michael Schumacher of the 1996 Grand Prix of France was a 1m 15.989s.

Panis said: "We've tried a number of things here and it's really beginning to take shape."
