- Johnny Herbert said in Paris at the Bercy Kart race he would announce which team he was going to drive for next year this week. It became clear today the team is Sauber. Herbert has signed a one year deal. The ex-Benetton driver won the Grand Prix of Silverstone and Monza and ended fourth in the championship this year but no team-boss was waiting in line for him to sign a deal.
Herbert said about Sauber: "The team has proven in 1995 that it has the potential to reach the top in the Grand Prix sport."
He will have his first test at Le Castellet, France, this week. Peter Sauber said: "We feel that he will be able to make a very positive contribution to our team after his good results this year."
Sauber sure could use a good second driver after the bad results of the second car this year.
- From one test session to the next. Villeneuve has driven the fastest time at the Catalunya (Spain) circuit. (1:21.69) Together with Berger and Alesi under the 1:22. Berger crashed again, today with a speed of 200 km/h. This is the third Benetton he destroys. The car obviously doesn't suet his driving style.
