- The first day of testing at Estoril (Portugal) has worked out fine for current word champion Michael Schumacher. But Gerhard Berger was, in his Benetton, the fastest. Berger drove a fastest lap of 1:25.7 to a 1:25.8 of Schumacher. Berger was finding the steer handling of the Benetton difficult. Schumi drove the V-10 Ferrari and didn't have any technical difficulties, like in the first session. His team-mate, Eddie Irvine, was 14 seconds slower than Berger. The reason for this was he drove his laps on slicks on the wet Estoril circuit. Schumacher said that the Ferrari team was going ahead as planned. When the track got dryer Schumacher took the fastest time of the day with 1:22.14. Irvine drove an impressing 1.23:00 on his fist real test day, but he had a transmission problem. Berger came in third. The Jordan team was also training today. Williams couldn't participate today, due to bad whether conditions they were stranded at Heathrow (ENG) airport. - Pedro Paulo Diniz, who drove for the Forti Corse Team last year, has, as expected, signed with the Ligier team for a couple of million dollars. - It is still a long way to go for Mika Hakkinen. He was flown to London last Saturday to be treated by the formula one doctor Syd Watkins. Mika is still complaining about a sore ear and headaches when he is working out. 11-12-1995
