| Austrian GP Edition. Compilation by Rory Gordon, Australia |
This edition of the SuperStats, for the Grand Prix of Austria, is devoted wholly to SuperGrid figures. (The next edition of the SuperStats will be wholly devoted to SuperRace figures.)
As usual in the SuperGrid, any driver who has not participated at all races is marked with an aster ("*") in the following tables.
So far this season, the total actual time of the pole positions is 13 minutes 44.998 seconds, with the average thus being 1 minute 22.500 seconds. This means that the figures for the "107% mark", on this basis, are 14 minutes 42.748 seconds and 1 minute 28.275 seconds respectively.
The first table shows each driver's average grid position and the total of his grid times. The "% Off Pole" figures show the average of the percentage that each driver was off each race's pole time.

The second table shows a notional SuperGrid based solely on this season's average grid times. In this table, all figures are based on the average grid times of the drivers, with Hakkinen's time being the notional pole time.
The "Split" figures are the time difference between one driver and the next. The "Gap" figures are the time differences between each driver and Hakkinen's time. The "%'age" figures are based on Hakkinen's time as being 100%.
Note that the "Average" figures used in this table are compatible with the "Total Time" figures in the table above.

I have been questioned in the past as to why a driver who does not participate in every race is marked out, and is ineligible for the SuperGrid. In the following table are the averages of the grid times for the races so far this season.
As will be seen from this table, the grid times between each GP vary greatly and to classify a driver who participates only at, say, Brazil, Canada and France would be to greatly advantage him.
Race Avg. Grid
Time
Australia 1m32.884s
Brazil 1m19.173s
Argentina 1m28.306s
San Marino 1m28.516s
Spain 1m23.089s
Monaco 1m22.349s
Canada 1m20.001s
France 1m16.823s
Britain 1m25.826s
Austria 1m32.178s
