These are the final figures for the 1996 SuperGrid/Race, following the Grand Prix of Japan.
With Damon Hill winning the Japanese GP and hence the World Championship for 1996, there have been a lot of statements about his success rate.
While I will be presenting more detailed figures in future issues of Atlas, a quick look over my figures from 1950 and comparing him against all other F1 drivers since then shows that Damon Hill is ranked:
Before anyone takes me to great task about these figures, please bear in mind that the Indianapolis 500 was an F1 GP from 1950-1960.
The top drivers in each category, as well as figures for all this year's drivers will be in the next issue of Atlas.
Damon Hill held pole position for the 1996 SuperGrid from the second race of the season. Jacques Villeneuve and Michael Schumacher, separated by an average of a mere 0.158 seconds, could both claim the other front row position.
Heinz-Harald Frentzen managed to squeeze Martin Brundle out of 10th position by 0.539 seconds on total times over the season.
The average time of the 16 pole postions was 1m26.665, with the 107% mark being 1m32.732.
As usual, those drivers who did not take part in qualifying for every GP are shown separately, and are marked with an aster ("*").
This table is sorted on average time.

While Hill had the lower finishing position average and led more laps, Villeneuve completed more laps and a greater distance during 1996 - but sorting on average finishing position bears a remote similarity to the final World Championship positions.
Whichever way the table is sorted, Tarso Marques finished "last" in the 1996 SuperRace.
Drivers who did not compete in every race are included in the SuperRace, and are marked with an aster ("*").
This Super Race table is sorted on position and then on laps.
