SUPERGRID and SUPERRACE

ATLAS TEAM F1
1996 SuperGrid and SuperRace
by Rory Gordon
Australia

Welcome to the F1 SuperGrid and SuperRace for 1996.

With the completion of the second race of the season, it now makes some sense to present the first of the season-long series that tries to evaluate drivers' performances throughout the season on a cumulative basis.

To those of you who have not seen the SuperGrid and SuperRace before, the idea is to average out each driver's efforts during the season, using the times and positions that he has attained.

All suggestions, corrections and so on, are gratefully received, but are not necessarily acted upon, subject to the compiler's whims.

The SuperGrid and SuperRace are based on the tables formerly presented by John Taylor in Autocourse.

SUPERGRID
The SuperGrid is based on the driver's grid time and his grid position. In this particular table, the driver's total grid time in seconds is given (TOTAL TIME), the average of his grid times in minutes and seconds (AVG. TIME), and the average of his grid positions (AVG. POS.).

Where a driver sets an "odd" qualifying time, ie. well above the 107% time, perhaps due to completing only a single slow lap and then crashing, that time is included if it is given in the official time sheets.

In order to qualify for the end-of-season SuperGrid, a driver must participate in every qualifying session. Drivers who do not are denoted with an aster ("*"), and are relegated to a separate table within the SuperGrid.

The SuperGrid is sorted on total time, and then on position. Each column is separated from the previous column by a minimum of three spaces.

SUPERRACE
The SuperRace on the driver's average finishing position in the race (AVG. POS.). A DNF is classified as if it was assigned a position, based on the number of laps completed. A disqualification automatically puts that driver last.

Also given in this table is the average, in minutes and seconds of the driver's best race laps (AVG. LAP), and the total number of laps completed by driver thus far in the season.

All drivers who start a GP are included in the SuperRace. Drivers who have not participated at every GP are denoted with an aster ("*"), but are not relegated to a separate table within the SuperRace.

The SuperRace is sorted on position, and then on laps completed. Each column is separated from the previous column by a minimum of three spaces.
