TRAVELING TO GRANDS PRIX
by Bill Doolittle

Traveling to a grand prix race, almost any grand prix race, involves leaving one's home country. For first time race attendees, it also means finding the track, a hotel, and your way around. All of this can be a daunting experience. Is there not a better way than having to figure out the details by yourself? Of course there is.

Some of us at ATLAS TEAM F1 have on several occasions relied on GRAND PRIX TOURS to make all its arrangements. We have never been dissatisfied. Indeed, we feel so strongly about GPT that we recommend it as the only way to travel to and see a Grand Prix. We do so on our own accord, without solicitation from GPT.

GRAND PRIX TOURS INC. is the brain-child of its president, Mr. Barry Simpson. Each year, Barry and his hard-working, cordial, and lovely staff, arrange tour packages to several grands prix. For 1995, there are tours being arranged to Monaco, Canada, France, Britain, Belgium, Italy, Portugal, and Australia. For some races (Monaco and Canada) there is more than one option, depending on how many days one wishes to stay, and the type of accommodations desired. At Monaco, for example, one can stay 5 nights in a hotel in Nice for as little as $1,195., or 6 days in the luxurious Loews Hotel trackside for $3,315.

Each trip has something special and unique about it. For Britain and Italy, Phil Hill is the host; he even leads a tour of the Alfa Romeo Museum as part of the latter trip. For Canada, there is a photo seminar, an F1 driver cocktail party, and a motor racing theme party complete with numerous personalities. Last year's personalities included drivers J.J. Lehto, David Brabham, and Eddie Irvine, team owners Nick Wirth and Eddie Jordan, and commentators Bob Varsha, David Hobbs, John Bisignano, and Forrest Bond. Other activites at the theme party included a photo and art exhibit, driver simulators, and remote control model race cars.

Race tickets and airfare are not included in the price of the various packages, but GPT can purchase tickets in the best grandstands, and make your flight arrangements as well. In other words, they can put together a total package that is world class by any standards. And, the price is actually comparable to what you would pay if you made your own plans.
