*** The Indianapolis 500 counted towards the world championship in 1950-1960, although few drivers crossed the Atlantic in either direction. Ascari did in 1952, and DNF'd. In 1953, he skipped Indy. If Indy is not counted, he won 9 in a row. Also if Indy is not counted, Ascari won 5 poles in a row, and scored 105 theoretical points in a row, putting him in 1st place ahead of Clark.
